Sincera ConsultingWhen you shop for a diamond, you’ll hear people talk about the “4 C’s”. This refers to the 4 qualities used to judge each stone: Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat weight. If the stone has high marks in each category, it’s certain to be a quality gem.

In like fashion, at Sincera we use our own “4 C’s” when considering your database. These four elements are the cornerstones of a successful implementation of your system, no matter which system you have. A high-quality, production-grade database should score high marks in these:

Completeness – your database should be complete to the extent you need. If you are missing part of your network, or don’t have your equipment modeled as fully as your business needs dictates, you won’t be getting the full picture.

Correctness – Lots of data isn’t much use if you’re not sure that it’s accurate. A good implementation process must have a method of validation checks that ensures that the data in your system reflects the true state of your network.

Coherence – your database has to make sense to you. The templates must be solid, the network readily understood by your users, the reports as concise or expansive as you require. A database without a high degree of coherence is hard to understand, and even harder to maintain.

Consistency –every element, model or instance in your database should be entered the same way, every time. If your equipment is named according to 10 different ideas of what’s right, it’s nearly impossible to determine what you actually have out in the field. If your optical rings are modeled several different ways, you’ll have a hard time determining your actual network capacity.

If you’d like your OSS inventory system to be a quality gem, contact Sincera.
